One cool Santa Monica evening in 2005, the three of us - Charleen Kay, Cindy Cupino, and Rick King - sampled Puerh, Charleen's favorite tea varietal. As an avid tea drinker, Charleen had always been crazy about tea and wanted to share her passion.
Over that fateful brew, we shared more than a pot of tea. We developed the concept and philosophy behind Puritea Lounge. We wanted to create a company that would discover and share pure and delicious premium whole leaf teas with tea lovers around the world.
Teabags are great for the sake of convenience, but if you need five minutes to chill out and re-awaken your senses - and who doesn't these days? - brewing your own leaves is worth the time and effort. If you feel a sense of returning calm and alertness, well, that's tea doing what it does best.
Our company philosophy is rooted in the principles of fair trade: giving back to producer communities; respecting our partners; and promoting good stewardship of Mother Earth.
We bring an array of key professional skills and industry experience to our mission. Charleen and Cindy have served stints in investment banking and management consulting for Fortune 500 companies, and both worked for one of the few surviving e-commerce service providers in the wine industry, which shares many operational similarities to the tea business. Rick brings invaluable brand development smarts and contacts, and has held recent marketing positions at start-up brands like Virgin Cola, Pony, and Lotto USA.
